SELECTED FILMS 2004
The 71 st Mifed is glad to present the second edition of Emerging European Filmmakers , a competition dedicated to young directors from the 25 countries of the enlarged Europe, organized with the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and the Fondazione Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia.
This is a completely innovative project, which intends to promote young cinema by offering emerging filmmakers the chance to face directly the international market.
As a matter of fact - like in the past edition - the competition winners will have a stand at Mifed, in which some video facilities will be available, in order to let the buyers watch the selected films and get directly in touch either with the young European directors or with their producers.
The short movies and feature films (first works) directed by European filmmakers born after the 1st of January 1974, will be judged for the final selection by an International Jury, consisting of the great Dutch actor Rutger Hauer,
the German journalist and opinion-maker Patrick Vom Bruck, and the Italians Walter Vacchino (President of ANEC, Associazione Nazionale Esercenti Cinema) and Pino Farinotti (writer and film journalist .
Many young talents, coming from a wide range of countries, have participated to the first edition of Emerging European Filmmakers competition, all of them pushed by a great interest for the original competition prize: the visibility on a worldwide cinema market, a goal which is almost impossible to achieve for filmmaking beginners.
Not a festival, not an exhibition, not a common movie competition: Emerging European Filmmakers is the door that Mifed opens between two worlds which are often far too distant: young cinema and the market. |
