The 71 st edition of Mifed (International cinema and Multimedia Market) will take place from the 12 th through the 16 th of October 2004 at Milan Fairgrounds.
There is a compact and solid registration on the part of European companies in this historical movie market, with particular emphasis on a strong presence of the leading French and German companies, such as Pathé, Celluloid Dreams and Bavaria.
High quality market premières are guaranteed, with “hot titles” such as Venice prize-winner
Vera Drake directed by Mike Leigh, The Bridesmaid by Claude Chabrol, Dogora by Patrice Le conte, Mar adentro by the spanish director Alejandro Amenábar, and The ninth day by Germany's Volker Schlöndorff.
The Asian presence, numerous notwithstanding the recent Pusan Film Festival, is a clear signal of continuity with the past edition of Mifed, which had already registered a very strong increase of companies from this area, with particular emphasis on China's first entry as a seller in the history of Mifed, as well as being present with a large delegation of buyers.
A new initiative, Location & Connection, has brought about the return to Mifed of Film Commissions, an ever-increasing reality in the panorama of international film production,

On the occasion of "The ways of the East" and to coincide with MIFED (International Cinema and Multimedia Market) one could not miss a Festival that showcased the best of the cinema recently produced in Asia.
To carry tokens and peculiarities of peoples beyond their land of origin, through a highly expressive artistic form like that of cinema, is a way to boost comparison with other cultures, meant as an exchange not only of intellectual themes, but also of commercial and economic contents.
The Festival will last until the 17 th of October and will be an important opportunity to promote an as yet little known cinema among the vast Western audience. It is in Asia that some of the masterpieces that traced the recent history of the art of film were produced during the last few years, and a prestigious showcase like that of Milan proves ideal for presenting the multifaceted Eastern cinema.
The festival programme proposes a plurality of genres, ranging from comedy to historical, testifying to the richness and dynamism of contemporary Asian cinema.
